Every family had one. Nobody wrote it down.

Court Piece, Mendikot, Seep, Satti-Centre — they lived in houses, not rulebooks. We are bringing them back, properly, in the languages they were played in.

You lead. What do you play?

Spades are trump. Dadi and Didi are out of hearts, and Chachu is holding one last trump. Exactly one of your three cards takes this haath — the other two hand it to him.

This is the whole game in one decision: follow the suit if you can, and a trump beats anything that isn't one.

Questions

Court Piece, explained

What is Court Piece?

A four-player trick-taking card game played in two partnerships across India and Pakistan. Each player is dealt five cards first, one player names the trump — the rang — and the rest of the pack follows. Winning seven of the thirteen tricks wins the round.

Is Coat Piece the same as Court Piece?

Yes. Coat Piece, Court Piece, Rang, Rung and Hokm are names for the same game. The spelling changes by region; the rules do not.

Can I play Court Piece offline?

A few rounds a day. Without internet, Rung Royal gives you three free rounds a day against bots, and with Remove Ads you can play offline any time. You can also host a private online table and invite the family over WhatsApp.

Is it free?

Yes. No real-money play, no gambling, no coins to buy. One optional purchase removes ads permanently.

What is a kot?

A kot, or court, is taking the first seven tricks of a round straight (in Single Sir). It ends the round and scores more than any plain win — and it is what the game is named after.

Which languages does it support?

Eight: Hinglish, English, हिन्दी, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, اردو, ગુજરાતી, বাংলা and मराठी — each in its own script.
